This is one of the "could be" and "should be". This is actually a production home but we have listed it in the "Concept" category because it is NOT built using ISBU shipping containers, but simply a more difficult, weaker, and more expensive prefab home. For some reason the Sustain Canada company designed this wonderful and inspiring prefab that is almost exactly the same dimensions a 20' and 40' ISBU's. They should have used ISBU modules. How much simpler and more popular their products would be if they were made using strong, recyclable ISBU modules. Even so, this modern design has already been the inspiration of a few ISBU Prefab designers and manufactures in the U.S. and globally. See their full photos and plans listed below. LabZero was the concept of the Italian
architect and designer Flavia Galvagni.
Certainly you've seen his designs on many
architectural websites and this one using
shipping containers as it's base structure
is by far the most popular.
We gave the "Best Concept Design"
award to Flavia due to it's extreme detail
and vision. We believe his concept work
has been, and will continue to be, a model
and inspiration for many designers for years
to come. [ More of his story ]
The ATC is very unique because unlike most
Concept designs this one was actually built
but is not for sale.
It was developed in 2006 by a team of
your artchitects and designers in Canada.
The group is named BARK and they simply
wanted to design a cabin using and ISBU
then tour Canada and inspire others.
This is very well designed but too small for
an actual home, however very usable for
what it was designed for, ...a cabin.

Here are some concept designs from
the Palk Project in Estonia using 20' ISBU.
Back in 2006 these were some of the first
concept designs featureing two levels.

The Addis designs are easily recognized.
Although the designs are famous we are
not aware of any shipping container housing
ever being constructed using the unique
Addis plans.
Designed by Graeme Addis in 2003, they
have been iconic Cubic Inspirations with
links from virtually every architecuture and
prefab website globally.
Everyone asks why this ISBU design looks so
different than other ISBU shipping container
designs.
If you look closely you will notice that is
unique inspiring container design is either "not"
genuine ISO shipping containers or, the have
had some serious modifications to the walls.
The Linx is indented or inset about 4" giving it
the unique appearance.
A genuine ISO shipping container walls are
nearly flush (even) with the corner posts. To
actually accomplish this on a genuine ISO
container would require cutting, the inserting
and re-welding again. ...not to realisitc.
